Loren Qualls was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, where he attended Roswell Kent Junior High, along with David, Dion, and John. He then graduated from East High School, where he was known for his artistic and literary talents. He received a BFA from The University of Akron and a PhD from The University of Amsterdam. He is now a university professor in Ventura, California.
